Joseph received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University.  He commissioned as an Active Duty Second Lieutenant through Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).  Joseph served over twenty years in the U.S. Army and retired as Regular Army Lieutenant Colonel. Lieutenant Colonel Gray was assigned to numerous duty stations throughout the United States and the world.  He deployed to Afghanistan in 2002 and 2013 and to Iraq in 2003 and 2007.  After retiring from the service, Joseph attended Drake University Law School.  While earning his law degree, Joseph interned at the Polk County Attorney’s Office, the State of Iowa Juvenile Public Defender’s Office, and Drake Law Criminal Defense Clinic.  After passing the bar, Joseph served as the Assistant Chickasaw County Attorney and most recently entered private practice before opening his office in Oelwein, IA.
